About the Young Marines

The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines promote the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, American History, patroitism and encourages a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps' youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts.

The Shenandoah Valley Young Marines is first and foremost a Drugawareness/prevention program with a Marine theme. We are not a in your face program our goal is for the kids to have fun and learn. The SVYM Unit was founded by William Molitor, who honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, and is the former Commander of the Col. Wesley Fox Young Marines unit. Bill has several years of experience in working with youth and running the Young Marines as Unit Commander.

The meeting location of the Shenandoah Valley Young Marine unit is located at the Winchester Elk’s Lodge off Rt 522 in Winchester, Virginia. You can visit us on the 1st Sunday of each month, beginning at 1:30 PM and adjourning at approximately 5:00 PM. The kids perform community service, learn history, attend field trips, as well as participate in classes with our Drug Prevention Instructors: Mr. Larry Funk & Mrs. Liz Barrington.

Our program is focus on having a positive impact our young American boys and girls through programs primarily focused on drug awareness, prevention, and American history. The Shenandoah Valley Young Marines attend many honorable events, which educates our youth about the history of our country, as well as how to stay away from drugs. Today, our youth are at risk if parents and their communities do not get involved to help them focus on school, respect, vision, and leadership. We will always remember that we are not training Marines, rather children. Our goal must be to provide these children with a fun training environment which will allow them to develop a sense of confidence and self-respect. At the same time, we must ensure a disciplined and structured training atmosphere while maintaining a fun learning environment.
