About the Young Marines
The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and
girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines promote the mental, moral, and physical development
of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, American History, patroitism and encourages a
healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps' youth Drug Demand Reduction
efforts.
The Shenandoah Valley Young Marines is first and foremost a Drugawareness/prevention program with a Marine theme. We
are not a in your face program our goal is for the kids to have fun and learn. The SVYM Unit was founded by William Molitor,
who honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, and is the former Commander of the Col. Wesley Fox Young Marines
unit. Bill has several years of experience in working with youth and running the Young Marines as Unit Commander.
The meeting location of the Shenandoah Valley Young Marine unit is located at the Winchester Elk’s Lodge off Rt 522 in Winchester, Virginia. You can visit us on the 1st Sunday of each
month, beginning at 1:30 PM and adjourning at approximately 5:00 PM.
The kids perform community service, learn history, attend
field trips, as well as participate in classes with our Drug Prevention Instructors: Mr. Larry Funk & Mrs.
Liz Barrington.
